Tel Aviv’s Time Grove Fuses Jazz and Electronic Music on Brilliant Debut Album
Led by pianist Nitai Hershkovits, the Tel Aviv-based ensemble featuring newly signed Stones Throw recording artist and member of the Buttering Trio, Rejoicer, release their debut full-length record, More Than One Thing.
Released on London’s Wah Wah 45s label, the album is delicately powerful and uplifting, blending piano and synth driven melodies, with layered horns, and subtle electronic-based rhythms. The music straddles the line beautifully between jazz-like complexity and minimalistic electronic music.
The 11-track recording is solid from start to finish, with highlights including the frenetic percussion-based “Jungle Bourjois,” the spacey meditative “Talek,” synth groover “Nezach,” and “A.L.P,” which has a funky waltz-like foundation. The album also includes both the brilliant “Roy The King” and “Sir Blunt,” which were released together on a 7inch single back in October.
Joining Hershkovits and Rejoicer on the record, the highly-stellar group also includes reed player Eyal Talmudi, drummers Roy Chen, Amir Bresler and Sol Monk, keyboardist Bemet, trumpeter Sefi Zisling, and guitarist Yonatan Albalak.
Overall, a more than impressive debut from the forward-thinking and visionary ensemble.
