Strut Records celebrates 20 years with latest ‘Nigeria 70’ compilation
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the London-based Strut label releases the next chapter in their highly acclaimed Nigeria 70 series, featuring twelve obscure Afro-funk, highlife, and juju gems from the 70s and 80s.
The first new edition in eight years, this compilation was compiled by collector and DJ Duncan Brooker. The selections featured on the record focus on a major exploratory period in Nigeria, where their was a strong infusion of western jazz, funk, soul, and disco into the music. For this collection of tracks, this is also marked the first time they have seen an international release outside of Nigeria.
Not only is their a wealth of an incredible music on this recording, this well-crafted compilation also features comprehensive sleeve notes that include exclusive interviews with some of the original artists.
With the latest Nigeria 70 compilation, Strut has once again put together a brilliant new record that continues to unearth some of the greatest music to have ever come out of Nigeria.
