Soulful Afrobeat vibes on United Disco Organisation’s 12inch ‘Feel It For Yourself’
The Leeds-based label ATA Records has recently released a great new soulful Afrobeat 12inch single “Feel It For Yourself” from the United Disco Organisation, which is led by bassist Neil Innes of the UK group The Sorcerers, along with Joost Hendrickx (also of The Sorcerers), guitarist Chris Dawkins, and percussionist Danny Templeman.
Heavily inspired by the funky Afro sounds of Manu Dibango, Tony Allen, and Ebo Taylor, the incredible track also features saxophonist Richard Ormrod, a regular at ATA, and vocalist K.O.G. and his stellar backing singers. Shelved for some time, it actually wasn’t until the vocals were added, that the track fully came together.
The 12inch release includes the longer 11-plus minute version, and a much shorter 4-minute vocal version on the flip. The release also includes a superb expansive rework by Smoove.
Primed perfectly for the dancefloor, and already seeing heavy rotation from Colin Curtis, David Patterson, Kev Beadle, Gilles Peterson and others, this is definitely one of the standout singles of 2024!
