Kaleidoscope: New Spirts Known and Unknown

Soul Jazz releases new compilation celebrating the current UK Jazz scene

Soul Jazz Records has released an incredible new expansive compilation, titled Kaleidoscope: New Spirits Known & Unknown, featuring many of the groundbreaking artists that are fueling the UK jazz scene.

Featuring artists like Matthew Halsall, Yazmin Lacey, Ill Considered, Tenderlonious, Tamar Collocutor, Chip Wickham, Emma-Jean Thackray, Joe Armon-Jones, Nubya Garcia and so many others, this triple-vinyl release really focuses on those musicians that have been self-publishing or releasing their recordings through independent labels. From jazz-funk, deep soulful vocals, spiritual melodies, electronic-based fusion experimentations, and modal grooves, this compilations covers a wide variety of sub-genres and breakthrough artists from across the UK region. The record also features a track from the brilliant drummer, producer, and composer Makaya McCraven. Even though he resides in Chicago, he has been a frequent collaborator with this scene, and his music often shares a similar vibe.

On the same day of it’s release (July 24), Soul Jazz will also be releasing a limited-edition single featuring Theon Cross’ superb dancefloor shattering brass jam “Candace of Meroe”, and Pokus’ spacey cosmic groover. This is a one-time only pressing of this 12″ single and will be deleted on release.

This must-own compilation also includes a limited edition 7inch single, and an expansive booklet featuring artist interviews and exclusive photography.

Overall, Soul Jazz done a remarkable job at putting together an extremely well-curated compilation that accurately documents arguably the most thriving and forward-thinking jazz scenes happening right now.
