Soul Jazz Records releases compilation devoted to Brazilian music in the US during the 70s
The latest compilation release from London’s Soul Jazz Records highlights Brazilian artists living and working in the USA during the 1970s.
In the 1970s, some of the most accomplished jazz artists in the states like Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, and George Duke were often recruiting some the finest Brazilian musicians to perform on their recordings. Many of these Brazilian artists had established themselves in their native country a decade earlier during the prominent rise of bossa nova. With both political unrest happening in Brazil, and more work presenting itself up North, many of these artists migrated and started recording their own sessions in the United States. Some of these notable musicians included are Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Sergio Mendes, Eumir Deodato, Dom Um Romao and others. This brilliant new compilation helps highlight some of these artists, and their greatest works from what resulted in a very explorative and creative era.
This new gatefold double vinyl LP album includes in-depth full sleeve notes discussing each artists’ journey, as well as exclusive photography. Overall, an essential compilation that truly does an incredible job of documenting a significant period in the evolution and influence in Brazilian music.
