Rare Sixties Brazilian Jazz Recording from Eumir Deodato Reissued
Far Out Recordings has just released early instrumental work from legendary Brazilian composer/musician Eumir Deodato and his bossa nova ensemble Os Catedráticos.
The original album was released in 1965, and sounds very different than Deodato’s more fusion recording that he produced in the seventies for CTI Records. The music reflects more of the hazy laid-back sounds coming out of Rio during the sixties, blending swingin’ samba rhythms and grooves with big horn arrangements, and funky organ melodies.
The record features both originals by Deodato and compositions by other legendary Brazilian artists including Marcos & Paulo Sergio Valle, Baden Powell and Luiz Bonfa.
Even though the original album was released over 50 year’s ago, this is the first time this brilliant and highly sought-after recording has been reissued outside of South America.
Overall, a great sixties Brazilian jazz recording that explores some of the earliest work from one of the region’s greatest and most-accomplished artists.
