Yazmin Lacey — Morning Matters

Rising UK vocalist Yazmin Lacey releases new soulful EP ‘Morning Matters’

Nottingham-based soul singer Yazmin Lacey has continued to make waves within the UK scene over the past few years, releasing a number of great EPs including 2018’s When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees and her debut Black Moon in 2017. She has just released a brilliant new five-track album, titled Morning Matters.

This new EP, which is self-released, has an overall laidback and graceful approach, blending together soulful vocals with jazz-influenced backing grooves. According to Lacey’s own description, Morning Matters “is dedicated to anyone that’s ever struggled with getting up and out in the morning, for everyone doing work on themselves and trying to live better.” Certainly an inspirational and uplifting message/concept recording for the current state of the world.

The EP also features some of the leading artists among the London jazz scene, including drummer Femi Koleoso and trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi of Ezra Collective (“Own Your Own” & “Morning Matters”), rising London pianist Sarah Tandy on keys (“Morning Matters”), and the highly-acclaimed Moses Boyd on drums and production (“Lately” & “Morning Sunrise”).

Another incredible release from one of the best soul singers among the UK scene. Highly recommended for fans of Erykah Badu, Cleo Sol, and Fatima.
