Musica Macondo unearths contemporary Brazilian gems on superb compilation ‘Brasil Novo’
In what is another essential compilation release of 2022, the UK-based Música Macondo label has teamed up with DJs Tahira (São Paulo) and Tim Garcia (London) for Brasil Novo, which is collection of previously unreleased contemporary dance floor Afro-Brazilian gems.
Disseminating the rich and percussive heritage of Brazil and Samba De Coco, this incredible eight-track compilation celebrates the unfamiliar artists from the cities of Recife, Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo, the music blending together joyous sounds of samba, candomble, batuques, Brazilian jazz, and folk, all with a nod towards the dance floor. For this release, Garcia and Tahira definitely dove in deep and were able to highlight a number of tracks that had never been released, including like Dona Celia Coquista “O Bar” and the massive live instrument cosmic groover from Toró, titled “Dunas”.
With the beginning of festival season right around the corner, and those tropical dance floors heating up this summer, expect tracks from this phenomenal compilation to be in heavy rotation. The record has already seen high praise from DJs Paul Murphy, Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff, Jamz Supernova, and many others. Definitely one of the compilations of the year!
