Tom Funk’s latest Sultan’s Swing full-length release ‘Ignite’ blends spiritual & cosmic jazz grooves
London-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ Tom Funk has recently released a great new cosmic jazz full-length under The Sultan’s Swing alias, titled Ignite on his Lazy Robot Records.
This eight-track recording nicely fuses together spacey synths and atmospheric electronic textures with a combination of spiritual melodies, free-wheeling improvisation, and jazz funk rhythms. The album flows well between meditative tracks like “Astralweeks,” “Colours,” and “Sunday Bloom,” and more uptempo selections like “Ignite,” “You’re One of a Kind,” and the incredible jazz dance groover “Dune” featuring special guest Chip Wickham on flute.
Even though this superb new album seems to have fallen slightly under the radar when it was initially released back in May, over the past few months, the record seems to continue to receive some notable praise including from legendary DJs Colin Curtis and Kev Beadle and others. Overall, the record absolutely delivers, and hopefully in time, will continue to receive even more worthy praise. Highly recommended!
