Melbourne’s Mildlife returns with dance floor groover ‘How Long Does It Take?’

Following a year where Mildlife broke through with three solid releases, including their debut EP Phase, the Melbourne-based jazz-funk quartet returns with an incredible new 12″ single titled How Long Does It Take?.

Described by the band as “a homage to the dance floors and clubbers who championed our music from day 1,” this uptempo cosmic groover has often served as the group’s live set closer. The track starts out with atmospheric Rhodes melodies and a leading flute solo that provides a mellow, and almost spiritual vibe before transforming into a peak-hour dance floor thumper featuring pulsating bass lines, spacey synths, and disco-influenced percussive rhythms.

Self-released as a limited twelve-inch single (only 500 copies), the record also features two great “made for the dance floor” remixes from Cosmic Disco originator Daniele Baldelli, and his longtime musical partner Marco Dionigi. Mildlife met Baldelli when they were on tour in Sicily performing at Gilles Peterson’s Ricci Weekender. After they hit it off, Baldelli jumped on board to produce two remixes for the record.

Overall, a brilliant new single release from one of the leading groups currently coming out of Melbourne. Hopefully there is another EP or possible full-length coming from this group in the near future.
