Melbourne’s Don Glori returns with superb genre-defying new album ‘Paper Can’t Wrap Fire’
Melbourne-rooted London-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Don Glori returns with his most eclectic and adventurous album to date, and first for the UK-based Mr. Bongo label, titled Paper Can’t Wrap Fire.
Steering his sound in a new direction, that not only has jazz-influences, but incorporates more soulful song-based tracks with a stellar cast of special guests. The album takes the listener on a musical odyssey with plenty of funky fusion and cosmic grooves, blended with lush vocal harmonies that compliment each other perfectly.
The session is truly a “family and friends” affair with many artists from the Naarm region, including his core group of Tim Cox, Al Kennedy, Joel Trigg, Robyn Cummins and Lachlan Thompson, who were part of Don’s touring band before he relocated to London, and an impressive selection of vocalists like ML Hall, Ruby Dargaville, Isadora Lauritz, and Bianca Kyriacou. The recording also features rising Australian trumpet Audrey Powne, award-winning saxophonist Joshua Moshe, and Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Alcides Neto.
Brilliant from start to finish, Don Glori has created a forward-thinking recording that really showcases his talent as a premier songwriter. One of the year’s best albums!
