MAY 21: BeatCaffeine Presents Higher Ground featuring Oakland’s Sitka Sun
On Tuesday, May 21st, BeatCaffeine presents the first Higher Ground event featuring Bay Area’s Sitka Sun at The RIC bar in Oakland.
This psychedelic groove heavy jazz-influenced project is the brainchild of bassist and arranger Patrick Murphy. The first recording from this instrumental project was released on the Oakland-based Long Road Society label in January 2018, and was met immediately with high praise, going out-of-print quickly and receiving rotation on Gilles Peterson’s BBC 6 radio show. As the band suggests, this recording is the perfect soundtrack for “long drives, desert landscapes, and contemplative days.” Fans of Khruangbin, The Heliocentrics, and The Greg Foat Group should definitely take notice.
For this performance, Sitka Sun will be performing two sets that will include some selections off their breakthrough debut recording, as well as featuring some brand new music.
BeatCaffeine’s TJ Gorton will be hosting the night and be spinning jazz-funk, rare cosmic grooves beginning at 7pm and in-between sets.
Come out and experience what hopes to be the first of many Higher Ground events, which brings together live jazz music and deejays.
