Mark de Clive-Lowe releases cosmic electro-acoustic trio album ‘Dreamweavers’
Los Angeles-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Mark de Clive-Lowe has teamed up with two incredible Italian musicians in bassist Andrea Lombardini and drummer Tommaso Cappellato (Astral Travel) to release his first trio album since 1996, titled Dreamweavers on Mother Tongue Records.
On this brilliant nine-track album, MdCL returns to his roots as a composer and pianist with a more electro-acoustic jazz vibe. Even though this recording doesn’t feature any samples or beat looping that we have become accustomed to on his previous releases, this record still has a very cosmic and hypnotic feel, combining a mixture of acoustic piano, synth, and Fender Rhodes melodies, with both electric and acoustic bass grooves, and dynamic percussion rhythms. The group even pays tribute to the late great Ras G with an interpretation of his electro-spiritual track “Strolling Down Degnan”.
Written by MdCL and inspired by the music of Ahmad Jamal and Ryuichi Sakamoto, this recording, which was recorded in Venice, was a fully collaborative process with both Lombardini and Cappellato handling the producer role for the album.
From acoustic broken beat to atmospheric soundscapes and head-nodding grooves, this superb album takes listeners on a cosmic sonic journey while showcasing the impressive virtuosity of the trio as a whole. Highly recommended!
