Ensemble C - Every Journey

Manchester’s Ensemble C releases brilliant new album ‘Every Journey’

In what has become one of the most anticipated albums of the year in many jazz circles, the expansive 11-piece Manchester-based group Ensemble C, led by acclaimed composer and pianist Claire Cope, has released a brilliant new album to coincide with March 8th’s International Women’s Day, titled Every Journey.

Inspired by the oft-repeated Chinese proverb states, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and the stories Cope came across of intrepid women pioneers who undertook their own daring journeys, this incredible 8-track 2xLP recording spans a wide array of territory musically, from spiritual and meditative moments to rhythmic layered grooves with souring horns and some standout Flora Purim-like vocals from Brigitte Beraha. Consistent with the album’s theme of “importance of taking that first step, and then you are on your way,” most of the individual tracks go through many movements that build as time goes on.

Following the release of the record’s singles “Isabel”, “That Nabongo Feeling”, and “Flight”, the album has been receiving strong rotation from the likes of Colin Curtis, Kev Beadle, David Patterson, and many others.

Released as a gatefold 2xLP, Every Journey delivers on all levels and is absolutely one of the best albums of 2025. Highly recommended!
