London’s Leading Tubist Theon Cross Releases Debut Album ‘Fyah’
As a member and contributor to many breakthrough groups like Moses Boyd’s Exodus, SEED Ensemble, Sons of Kemet and many others, Theon Cross is one of the most prominent musicians currently coming out of London’s jazz scene.
The much in-demand tubist releases his highly-anticipated debut album Fyah on Gerabox Records, which is jazz for the dancefloor. The music on the recording is a high-energy mix of early New Orleans-styled tuba-based brass grooves fused with driving saxophone melodies, synths, and modern-day grime rhythms.
The album also features an incredible cast of musicians that include saxophonist Nubya Garcia, drummer Moses Boyd, and a number of special guests on select tracks.
As the title suggests, this album certainly brings the heat with some uptempo which successfully blurs the lines between jazz and dance music. What appears to one of the most in-demand musicians continues to make his mark as one of today’s most forward-thinking jazz artists.
