Joe Armon-Jones — Turn To Clear View

London’s Joe Armon-Jones releases brilliant debut full-length ‘Turn To Clear View’

Keyboard wizard Joe Armon-Jones, who also plays in Ezra Collective, is one of the leading lights and most active musicians among the currently thriving London jazz scene.  He follows up last year’s breakthrough EP Starting Today with a remarkable new debut full-length album, titled Turn To Clear View.

Picking up right where he left off with Starting Today, Armon-Jones continues to make jazz music for the dance floor. On this new eight-song recording, released on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label, the keyboardist successfully fuses together electric and cosmic jazz melodies with heavy dub and p-funk grooves, Afrobeat rhythms, and hip-hop beats. With Armon-Jones music, it’s clear that London’s club culture, and the region’s strong reggae-dub presence are major influences.

Backing Armon-Jones on the album, the record features some finest musicians currently on the London scene, including guitarist Oscar Jerome, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, and drummer Nubya Garcia. The record also features a number of noteworthy special guest vocalists including Georgia Anne Muldrow (Brainfeeder, Stones Throw), Obongjayar (XL), and Jehst.

With this latest release, Joe Armon-Jones has produced another brilliant recording, and continues to make his mark as one of the most forward-thinking artists in music right now.
