Vels Trio — Celestial Greens

London-based Vels Trio release stellar cosmic jazz debut LP ‘Celestial Greens’

Following up on the group’s 2017 breakthrough EP Yellow Ochre, the cosmic jazz London-based Vels Trio, featuring keyboardist Jack Stephenson-Oliver, bassist Cameron Dawson, and drummer Dougal Taylor have just released their highly-anticipated full-length album Celestial Greens on the Rhythm Section International label.

Even though this album has a similar foundation as Yellow Ochre, blending together spacey keys and synths with funky head-nodding rhythms, this new brilliant 11-track recording has a much more adventurous psychedelic 70’s era jazz fusion feel. Recorded mostly in Kate Bush’s personal Wicker Studios in Welling, this album captures these superb UK musicians pushing their collective sound new heights.

Overall, this is a fantastic new album from one of the most talented and forward-thinking ensembles rising out of the fruitful London Jazz scene. Heavy-hitting cosmic grooves … this is simply progressive instrumental music at it’s very best. Fans of BADBADNOTGOOD, Snarky Puppy and Joe Armon-Jones should definitely take notice!
