Joe Armon-Jones — Icy Roads (Stacked)

London-based synth wizard Joe Armon-Jones releases exclusive 10″ single

Keyboardist and composer Joe Armon-Jones follows up his highly acclaimed debut EP, Starting Today, with an new exclusive ten-inch single Icy Roads (Stacked).

The synth wizard has been one of the most active and forward-thinking musicians to come out of London’s current jazz scene. On top of releasing Starting Today, (named BeatCaffeine’s Best EP of 2018) and a complementary dub twelve-inch in 2018, Jones is a co-founder of the breakthrough Afrobeat-influenced group Ezra Collective, and regularly plays with London saxophonist Nubya Garcia. He also recently was featured on The Vinyl Factory’s Untitled compilation dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquiat, with Garcia and Dubstep mastermind Mala.

This two-track 10-inch single features the funky astral-jazz title track groover “Icy Roads (Stacked)” featuring KOKOROKO bassist Mutale Chashi, and drummer Kwake Bass, who is also notably played with Sampha, Kate Tempest, and Joey Bada$$. The exclusive vinyl-only b-side track, titled “Aquarius,” features Jones performing in a looser solo setting. The artwork for this record is also on point, paying homage to Herbie Hancock’s 1974 jazz-funk classic ‘Thrust.’

With less than 200 copies remaining of this 2,000 limited run, I certainly would recommend picking up a copy of this brilliant new single as soon as possible!
