The Sultan's Swing — Matter of Urgency

London-based cosmic jazz group The Sultan’s Swing make strong return with ‘Matter Of Urgency’

Following the breakthrough success of last year’s album Ignite, the London-based cosmic jazz ensemble The Sultan’s Swing return with a masterful new follow-up recording in Matter Of Urgency on Lazy Robot Records.

This incredible five-track record builds off the foundation that was nicely established on the last recording, featuring a brilliant melding of cosmic and spiritual hypnotic melodies, backed by some funky deep jazz grooves. There is definitely some strong Lonnie Liston Smith meets Soft Machine vibes throughout.

Written and produced by multi-instrumentalist Tom Funk (aka Aziz Mustafa), who plays piano, synths, bass, and drums on the recording, the session also features saxophonist Oli Arlotto, flautist Ben Hadwen, some additional bass and drum contributions from Ozan Nidayi, and drums from both Tim Balasubramaniam and Sergiu Fanica on select tracks.

Overall, Tom Funk and company have completely outdone themselves again, taking the sound of The Sultan’s Swing to completely new heights. Highly recommended!
