Live recording of Marc Moulin’s Placebo at 1971 Montreux Jazz Festival released on vinyl
WRWTFWW Records imprint, We Release Jazz has recently released the first ever live recorded performance by Marc Moulin’s legendary jazz-funk band Placebo.
Recorded at Casino Kursaal during the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1971, this recording features an extended 26-minute two-part version of the funky soulful jazz groover “Showbiz Suite.” Moulin holds it down on Fender Rhodes, backed by Nick Kletchkovsky on bass, Freddy Rottier on drums, Johnny Dover on bass clarinet, Alex Scorier on soprano saxophone, and Richard Rousselet on flugelhorn.
This live recording is the precursor to the Belgian band’s three highly obscure albums Ball of Eyes, 1973, and their 1974 self-titled album.
With Placebo’s other seventies releases being some of the most sought-after and influential jazz-funk albums, it’s great to finally see this pivotal and foundational live recording receive an official release. Don’t sleep, this one is going to go fast. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
