Latest ‘Jazz Re:Freshed 5ive’ EP Highlights Trombonist Rosie Turton
Following releases from saxophonist Nubya Garcia and pianist Ashley Henry, the latest in the Jazz Re:Freshed 5ive EP series comes the debut from rising star trombonist and producer Rosie Turton.
For the past few years, the London-based artist has made a name for herself in the currently thriving UK jazz scene, performing in groups like the septet Nérija (Domino Recording Co) and the Sun Ra influenced group Where Pathways Meet.
On this recording, she nicely fuses together her trombone-led jazz melodies with layered string arrangements, keyboard driven grooves, and electronic atmospheric sounds. She often cites Alice Coltrane and classical Indian music as her biggest influences, and it shows on this brilliant new record.
The trombonist was recently included in The Guardian‘s Best New Music of 2019 feature, and after listening to Rosie’s Five, it’s easy to understand the praise. Rosie Turton is definitely an artist with a very bright future.
