Lance Ferguson presents Vol 2 of live reworked rare groove classics
Lance Ferguson, who is a producer, guitarist, DJ, and bandleader of the Melbourne-based funk outfit The Bamboos, returns with volume two of his brilliant Rare Groove Spectrum series, featuring live band re-edits of essential jazz-funk rarities, balearic gems, Latin groovers and everything in-between.
Throughout this incredible nine-track album, Ferguson and a superb cast of Melbourne musicians (including members of The Bamboos and Menagerie), rework a number of classics like Carly Simon‘s “Why,” Kool & The Gang‘s “Summer Madness,” Marcos Valle‘s “Estrelar,” Azymuth‘s “Voo Sobre O Horizonte,” Kitty Winter & Gipsy Nova‘s “New Morning,” Pat Metheny‘s “Sueno Con Mexico” and more. Instead of performing the songs in a more straight-ahead approach, Ferguson rearranged the material through the lens of the dancefloor and how a DJ might approach a re-edit of these tracks, including extending and/or looping sections, adding additional instrumentation, or teasing out certain aspects of the original tune.
Once again, Ferguson has successfully been able to re-imagine and put a new spin on some of the most notable rare groove classics of our time. Highly recommended!
