LA-based vocalist Dwight Trible returns with spiritual jazz full-length ‘Mothership’
Los Angeles-based Dwight Trible follows-up last year’s brilliant Colors EP on Manchester’s Gondwana Records with a brand new remarkable full-length on Gearbox Records, titled Mothership.
Over the past two decades, Trible has made his mark as one of the most notable and unrivaled vocalists in jazz, performing with a wide range of multi-generational jazz greats including Pharoah Sanders, Charles Lloyd, Horace Tapscott, Bobby Hutcherson, Kenny Garrett, Kamasi Washington, and Matthew Halsall. Last year’s Colors EP, which also featured Halsall and The Gondwana Orchestra, was a tribute to Pharoah Sanders, performing four new renditions of the legendary saxophonists most classic compositions.
On this new twelve-track recording, Trible’s passionate and heartfelt vocals are backed by strong spiritual jazz melodies and solos from some of the best musicians in the Los Angeles scene, including superstar tenor saxophonist Kamasi Washington on the album’s title track “Mothership.” The album also features Mark de Clive-Lowe on piano, violist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, harpist Maia, Carlos Niño and Derf Reklaw on percussion, drummer Derf Reklaw, and John B. Williams on double bass.
With each and every release, Dwight Trible continues to establish himself as one of the greatest spiritual jazz vocalists of our time, and is undoubtedly creating the same kind of legacy that vocal legends Leon Thomas and Andy Bey had on the genre.
