Jamael Dean — Primordial Waters

LA-based pianist & producer Jamael Dean releases brilliant cosmic spiritual jazz album ‘Primordial Waters’

Composer, pianist and producer Jamael Dean, who is one the standout young artists among the Los Angeles jazz scene, has recently released an incredible new debut album, titled Primordial Water, on Stones Throw Records.

Officially released near the end of October 2021, this remarkable album has now been issued on vinyl. Heavily featuring longtime collaborator, vocalist Sharada Shashidar, and drummer Mekala Session, this music is inspired by the Yoruba diaspora and is a superb blend of cosmic and spiritual jazz grooves, with celestial textures, and beautiful, yet haunting vocal melodies by Shashidar.

Showing his talents not only as a pianist but also as a producer, the 10-track jazz recording is accompanied by an additional 10-track hip-hop album (digital versions only), produced by Dean as “Jasik,” with beats sampled from the jazz selections off of Primordial Waters.

Masterful from start to finish, this is a phenomenal debut full-length recording from one of the young brilliant minds moving jazz forward.
