Kaidi Tatham continues his cosmic jazz explorations on superb new album ‘The Only Way’
Belfast-based multi-instrumentalist and broken beat pioneer Kaidi Tatham always seems to be many steps ahead of the pack, and that certainly continues to be the case as he has just released another superb recording for UK’s First Word Records, titled The Only Way.
Featuring 11-tracks, this new full-length builds off the foundation established on his previous four recordings for the label, blending together cosmic keyboards and textures, bruk, boogie, and hip hop beats, spacey cinematic strings, and Brazilian-flavored grooves that are all rolled up into a sound that brilliantly blurs the lines between jazz and dance music.
The recording also features a few notable guests, including American rapper and vocalist Uhmeer (aka Amir Mitchell-Townes), Dutch producer Trian Kayhatu (aka Chukimai, TK Music), vocals from Valvin Roane, and some production work from Matt Lord, who has released a number of great duo records over the last few years with Dego, and Tatham (see 2021’s Find Another Way).
Just when you think Kaidi Tatham has reached the apex as an artist, he continues with each new release to push his sound to whole new heights, with a growing level of virtuosity and adventurism. Overall, another impressive recording from one today’s most forward-thinking musical minds.
