Jazzroom Records reissues rare 1986 spiritual soul-jazz masterpiece by The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble
London-based Jazz Room Records, which is run by legendary jazz DJ Paul Murphy, continues it’s onslaught of “must-have” releases in 2021, with a very welcomed reissue of The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble’s highly obscure 1987 spiritual soul-jazz masterpiece Le – Le.
Led by producer, composer, and acoustic bassist Warren Oree, The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble is an adventurous group was established in 1979 and continues to play around the Philadelphia region even to this day. For this incredible November 1986 session, the band blends together a brilliant mix of Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern-influenced melodies and funky rhythms with soulful spiritual jazz grooves and avant-garde explosiveness. Great from start to finish, however both the title track “Le – Le” and the vocal-led track “Wet Walnuts and Whipped Cream” are primed perfectly for jazz dancefloors.
Overall, this rare gem has been a “staple” among the underground jazz dance scenes throughout Europe since it’s initial release, and thanks to Murphy and Jazz Room Records, this reissue should only increase it’s worthy appeal among jazz fans and collectors.
