Nautilus — Live at King Georg

Japanese jazz-funk trio Nautilus release live recording

As a follow-up to their first European tour in May of 2023, the highly active and talented Tokyo-based trio Nautilus has recently released a live recording, taken from their last date of the trip at the legendary King Georg in Cologne, Germany.

Released by the German label Oonops Drops, this superb and energetic performance, features some incredible new renditions on classic tracks like Herbie Hancock’s “Eye Of The Hurricane”, War’s “The World Is A Ghetto”, The Singers Unlimited’s “Stone Ground Seven” (written by Roger Kellaway), Woody Shaw’s “Sweet Love Of Mine”, and Lonnie Liston Smith’s “Expansions”. The session also includes “Mr Strange” and “Looking Back” (CD version only), written by the group’s drummer Toshiyuki Sasaki.

Rounding out the group on this impressive recording is keyboardist Mariko Nakabayashi and bassist Shigeki Umezawa.

Overall, another great release this boundary-pushing group that truly captures the essence of the Japanese trio’s high flying live experience.
