Mistura Pura — U Ragno Poderoso / C. da Deserto

Italian producer Mistura Pura releases two superb new tracks from forthcoming album

Italian producer, singer, vinyl collector, DJ and music producer Mistura Pura (aka Federica Grappasonni), who’s put out a number of superb singles over the last couple of years (see ‘Vamo Vive’ 7″), has just released a couple new tracks digitally in anticipation of her forthcoming full-length album on Ubiquity Records in early 2025.

It seems like with each release, Mistura Pura continues to push her sound to new heights, experimenting with different sounds and influences and that certainly is the case with these latest tracks. “U Ragno Poderoso” is an epic 9-minuted Afro-Brazilian inspired song featuring classical guitar, hypnotic vocals in both Portuguese and Italian languages, subtle percussion textures. The music is inspired by the story of a tarantula spider in the Puglia region known to bite women in the 50s, that supposedly would result in psychosis. Young upcoming Italian jazz on classical guitarist Paride Pignotti and percussionist Gennaro Scarpato are also included on the session.

“C.da Deserto” is spaced-out jazz-funk cut that also includes special guest Bastard Jazz’s Buscrates on synths and UK jazz great Jessica Lauren on acoustic piano and Fender Rhodes. The track features a heavy hip-hop backing beat with layers of cosmic textures. Think Herbie Hancock-meets-Azymuth with a touch of Kool & The Gang’s “Summer Madness”.

Overall, two remarkable, yet widely diverse songs that provide a nice preview of what will surely be a highly-anticipated full-length release in 2025.
