Italian producer Gerardo Frisina continues to push the boundaries on new LP ‘Joyful Sound’
When it comes to seamlessly blurring the sounds of jazz, house, and Afro-Latin music, Italian composer and producer Gerardo Frisina has set the standard, releasing six highly acclaimed full-length albums and numerous essential EPs, 12inch singles, remixes and more over a two decade span. As a follow-up to last year’s superb Soul Drum EP, the modern-day jazz dancefloor pioneer has returned with a brilliant new 2xLP on Schema Records, titled Joyful Sound.
On this incredible 12-track recording, Frisina continues to push the boundaries and take his music to new heights, fusing together a wide variety of influences and sounds, including funky jazz grooves, Latin and Afro-Cuban rhythms, cosmic electronic beats, atmospheric textures, and tribal percussions that all take aim at the dancefloor. In many ways, this album feels like a culmination of explorations he’s taken listeners on with previous recordings, while still expanding and going beyond.
Featuring over 75 minutes of music, the session also features a solid group of musicians including the late Enzo Frassi (double bass), Fabrizio Bernasconi (piano, Rhodes), Gendrickson Mena (trumpet, piano), Alfonso Deidda (sax, ute) and Ernesto Lopez (drums, percussion), with the addition of Piero Perelli on drums and Giovanni Guerretti on piano, Hammond and Rhodes.
With Joyful Sound, Frisina once again delivers a timeless gem and the latest chapter in his journey of forward-thinking music exploration.
Gerardo Frisina’s Joyful Sound will be officially released on Feb 3, 2023
