Italian bassist Rosa Brunello releases brilliant improvised hypnotic full-length ‘Sounds Like Freedom’
Adventurous Italian bassist and composer Rosa Brunello, who often explores everything from progressive rock and jazz fusion to dub and experimental electronic music, is releasing a brilliant new full-length record, appropriately titled Sounds Like Freedom, on Tommaso Cappellato’s new label Domanda Music.
Recorded in Verona, Italy during September 2021, this incredible eight-track album is the result of spontaneous improvisations featuring a superb cast of musicians that never met or played together previously until the actual recording. Led by Brunello, the session also included UK jazz star and trumpeter Yazz Ahmed, Arabic experimental music pioneer Maurice Louca, and Italian drumming sensation Marco Frattini. Taking the listener on a cosmic journey, the music blends together hypnotic percussion rhythms, spacey tones and textures, souring trumpet lines, and Brunello’s foundational bass grooves.
Following a time where we all were completely isolated, this album celebrates the importance and beauty of connection and collaboration among forward-thinking artists. Remarkable from the first to last note, this absolutely one of the best albums released in 2022.
