Ghana’s Kwashibu Area Band releases incredible debut album on Soundway
Following the group’s impressive contributions to some of the most recent recordings from Ghanaian highlife legend Pat Thomas, the Accra-based Kwashibu Area Band has released their highly-anticipated debut album on London’s Soundway Records, titled Love Warrior’s Anthem.
Brilliant from start to finish, this 7-track release continues to push the highlife sound forward by incorporating deep jazz influences, elements of reggae and dub, atmospheric textures, and cosmic grooves.
Led by Kwame Yeboah (Keys, Guitar, Piano, Hammond Organ) and Ben Abarbanel-Wolff (Saxophone, Flute), the session also includes and percussionists Giuseppe “Big Finga” Coppola and Eric Owusu.
Over the past two-plus decades, Soundway Records has been one of the premier labels when it comes to releasing the most forward-thinking grooves from around the globe, and this latest release from the Kwashibu Area Band is one of their best albums of new material they’ve arguably ever put out. Regardless if you’re a highlife, jazz, or reggae fan, or someone that just enjoys interesting groove-oriented instrumental music, this recording is right up their with any other recording that has come out this year. Highly recommended!
