German quartet Web Web release brilliant new spiritual full-length ‘Worshippers’
The Munich-based quartet Web Web continues to make their mark on the scene, following the release of two stellar recordings in Oracle (2017) and Dance Of The Demon (2018), with a brilliant new album, titled Worshippers, their third on the highly-acclaimed German label, Compost Records.
This thirteen-track features band members pianist and synth wiz Roberto Di Gioia, saxophonist and flautist Tony Lakatos, bassist Christian von Kaphengst and drummer Peter Gall, as well as a number of special guest artists including vocalist Joy Denalane, violinist/violist Stefan Pintev, and cellist Boris Matchin.
Worshippers is the group’s best and most adventurous to date, taking the listener on a journey through Afro and spiritual jazz, combined with cinematic vibes and hard-hitting percussion grooves. On four notable tracks (“The Upper,” “Two Faces Lost,” “Free A.M. Part 1” and “What You Give”), Denalane also adds some beautiful and haunting vocal melodies, in which she improvised during the recording.
Overall, an absolutely incredible new recording from one of Germany’s most forward-thinking quartets. Highly Recommended!
