Funk 45: Matasuna Records Reissues Two Latin Funk Rarities
Over the past couple of months, Matasuna Records has put out two incredible 7inch singles featuring highly sought-after Latin funk jams from the early seventies.
Back in December, the Berlin-based label reissued two rare Latin gems from Argentina-born musician Enrique Lynch. Side A features the highly sought-after “African Bump,” which is a heavy-hitting funk jam and one of Lynch’s greatest recordings. On the flip, features a great soulful cover of The Nite-Liter’s 1971 hit “K-Jee.” This was the first time both of these classic tracks were issued on the same record.
The label followed up that monster release with the first ever official reissue of Black Sugar’s very obscure 1971 Peruvian funk seven-inch single “Viajecito/Too Late.” The original has been one of the most in demand Latin American forty-fives, going for many hundreds of dollars. The record was fully remastered in Peru.
Overall, Matasuna Records is making some of the hardest to find Latin American funk music from the seventies readily available again. Don’t sleep on these releases!
