French saxophonist Laurent Bardainne’s new project Tigre d’eau Douce release brilliant debut
Paris-based composer, bandleader and tenor saxophonist Laurent Bardainne, who has Pharrell Williams, Cassius, Tony Allen and many others, has released the debut full-length of his latest quintet project Tigre d’eau Douce, titled Love Is Everywhere on Heavenly Sweetness.
This incredible twelve-track album brilliantly blurs the line between spiritual grooves, soul-jazz, and tropical atmospheric tones, featuring soaring Coltrane-esque saxophone solos, soulful B3 organ melodies, and layered funky percussion rhythms.
Led by Bardainne, the group also features Arnaud Roulin on organ, bassist Sylvain Daniel, drummer Philippe Gleizes, and percussionist Roger Raspail. The record also features special guest vocalist Anthony Joseph on arguably the album’s most standout track “Star 5”.
Overall, I hope this record continues to receive praise, as it’s one of the most interesting and dynamic jazz albums I’ve heard this year.
