Cotonete — Victoire De La Musique

French jazz-funk group Cotonete release brilliant full-length ‘Victoire De La Musique’

Following a slew of standout singles and their 2019 breakthrough album Super-vilains, the 8-piece French jazz-funk group Cotonete has returned with a brilliant new eclectic album on the Heavenly Sweetness label, titled Victoire De La Musique (which takes a dig at the annual French music award ceremony).

Produced by Ibiza-based DJ and beat maker Guts, this superb 9-track recording touches upon numerous global influences, from Brazilian and Caribbean-inspired jazz funk, to cosmic French grooves, breezy Balearic vibes and just about everything in between. The album also features a number of notable special guests, including Sabrina Malheiros (daughter of Azymuth’s Alex Malheiros) on the jazz dance cut “Bebete Väobora”, Leron Thomas on the massive soulful single “Day in Day Out”, UK street soul pioneer Omar on “What Did You Run For?”, and Parisian based musical icon Gystere Peskine on the disco-funk selection “O Ceu es Preto”.

The group is made up of Florian Pellissier (of Florian Pellissier Quintet) on keys, synths and piano, Christophe Touzalin on trumpet and additional keys, Frank Chatona on saxophones and horn arrangements, Paul Bouclier on trumpet and acoustic guitar, Benoit Giffard on trombone, Jean-Claude Kebaili on bass, Farid Baha on guitar, and David Georgelet on drums and percussion.

Primed for both the peak and cool-down moments of the dancefloor, Victoire De La Musique nicely melds together a colliding cascade of jazz influences and sounds from different corners of the world. Definitely one of the early standout recordings of 2024!
