Favorite Recordings and Charles Maurice — Global Fusion Sounds

Favorite Recordings and Charles Maurice release brilliant compilation of rare jazz-funk/fusion sounds from 1970-83

The string of must-have compilation releases in 2022 continues with the French label Favorite Recordings compiling a mind-blowing collection of extremely rare jazz-funk and fusion grooves from the 1970s and early 1980s, titled Fusion Global Sounds (1970-1983).

Compiled by Favorite Recordings founder, label boss, and notable record collector Charles Maurice, this brilliant nine-track recording spans many regions, featuring obscure selections from Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, New Zealand, Uruguay, Spain and France, from artists and bands mostly known in their local scenes. Many of the tracks featured on the compilation have a strong Fender Rhodes presence, as well with a slight tropical and soulful vibe that crosses a bit into AOR territory, making the timing of this release ideal with the warmer months upon us.

Some of the highlights include the cosmic groovers “Buster” by the Swedish band Sundance and “Astral Dance” by French-American drummer and composer Daniel Bechet, and New Zealand’s The 1860 Band‘s cover of “Keep That Same Old Feeling” by The Crusaders, and Zane Cronje‘s dreamy synth library music track “Tropical Island” to name just a few.

Overall, this compilation is great from start to finish, and sheds a light on some of the best jazz-funk/fusion tracks, that up until this point, you’ve never heard. Highly recommended!

‘Fusion Global Sounds (1970-1983)’ will be officially released on June 17, 2022 on Favorite Recordings.
