Far Out Recordings releases 11-minute 12″ version of Joyce’s groundbreaking “Feminina” for Record Store Day
This Saturday, June 18th is Record Store Day Drop #2 and as usual, there are many notable RSD releases, however one that arguably might rise above the pack is Far Out Recording’s limited-edition twelve-inch featuring the never-before-released 11-minute version of Brazilian icon Joyce Moreno‘s groundbreaking 1977 “Feminina”.
Produced, arranged, and conducted by the great Claus Ogerman, who has worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Billie Holiday, and more, for an as yet unreleased Natureza album. At the time this recording was coming together, the thought was this would be Joyce’s big international breakthrough release, however was unfortunately shelved.
The session, which was recorded at Columbia Studios in New York, featured fellow Brazilian icon Mauricio Maestro, percussionists Nana Vasconcelos and Tutty Moreno, jazz legends Joe Farrell on flute, saxophonist Michael Brecker, bassist Buster Williams, vibraphonist Mike Manieri and a full orchestra.
On the flip, there is an insightful conversation with Joyce and Far Out label boss Joe Davis discussing the session.
This releases was tentatively scheduled to come out during the first Record Store Day of the year back in April, however due to pressing delays the anticipation for this release has only continue to grow. This might not be just one the real highlight’s of this Saturday’s RSD releases, this might be the best twelve-inch release of 2022.
Joyce’s ‘Feminina’ 12″ is officially released on June 18, 2022 on Far Out Recordings. I also recommend checking out their other RSD release of Dudu Lima & João Bosco’s 12″ featuring “O Ronco da Cuica”.
