Dwight Trible debuts LA-based spiritual jazz ensemble Cosmic Vibrations on new album
London’s Spiritmuse Records have just released the brilliant debut album Pathways & Passages from the Los Angeles-based spiritual jazz ensemble Cosmic Vibrations, led by acclaimed jazz vocalist Dwight Trible.
This incredible eight track recording fuses Trible’s soulful “Leon Thomas-like” vocal melodies, poetry, and chants with African-influenced percussion rhythms, meditative tones, and hypnotic grooves. As the name of the group suggests, this music definitely takes the listener on a sonic cosmic journey through celestial galaxies and then back again.
Also featured on this superb recording are Pablo Calogero on tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, woodwinds and flute, John B. Williams on acoustic bass, and percussionists Breeze Smith, Derf Reklaw, and Christopher Garcia. The session also features special guests lap steel guitarist Scott Fraser, and cellist/upright bassist Tony Green.
Arguably Trible’s foremost recording as a leader and certainly one of the standout jazz recordings of this year, this is soul-enriching spiritual jazz at it’s absolute best. Fans of Pharoah Sanders, Kahil El’Zabar, Sun Ra Arkestra, Leon Thomas, Alice Coltrane, and Carlos Niño should definitely take notice. Highly recommended!
