Colin Curtis Presents 2024 Releases

Colin Curtis releases four new essential jazz dance releases

Over the last several weeks, legendary UK-based DJ and radio broadcaster Colin Curtis has continued with his impressive onslaught of essential releases on his imprint label Colin Curtis Presents with four superb 12” records, all of which take aim at the jazz dancefloor.

Colin Curtis Presents - GeeW - Pachanga EP

GeeW — ‘The Pachanga EP
(Colin Curtis Presents)

The first of two recent releases from UK-based producer and percussionist GeeW aka Glenn Worthington features a heavy dose of broken beat percussion grooves and cosmic synths. The opening track on the EP, titled “Pachanga (Be On Di Geemix)”, is in a lot of ways a remix of Mario Biondi’s 2006 modern jazz dance classic “This Is What You Are” with much more of a bruk feel. Primed for peak moments on the dancefloor, “Necesitas Esto” includes re-sung lyrics from Nina Simone’s classic “See-Line Woman”.

Colin Curtis Presents - The Head Hunter EP

GeeW — ‘The Head Hunter EP’
(Colin Curtis Presents)

If one release over the last few months wasn’t enough, GeeW returns with his most expansive and arguably best release to date. The six-track recording spans a lot of territory building off Glenn Worthington’s foundational latin tinged broken beat sound, combined here with some soulful vocals, horns, and layered percussion grooves with a strong aim to the dancefloor. This is definitely one of the best EPs of 2024!

Colin Curtis Presents - Juju - Haute Couture

Juju — ‘Haute Couture EP’
(Colin Curtis Presents)

A project led by UK producer Roderick Stewart, Juju follows up last year’s breakthrough Black Samba EP with another brilliant release, titled Haute Couture EP. This impressive five-track recording builds of the last recording, fuses together funky jazz grooves with Latin-tinged rhythms. Great from start to finish, the session also features saxophonist Luke Radford, trombonist Harry Jones and rhythm guitarist Derek McDonald.

Colin Curtis Presents Cengiz & Ishfaq

Cengiz & Ishfaq — ‘Vibrations’ 12″
(Colin Curtis Presents)

A stellar double-sided 12″ single with Cengiz and Ishfaq helming one side of the record respectively. Cengiz’ “Motf” is an uptempo soulful broken beat rendition of Carlos Garnett’s jazz dance classic “Mother of the Future”. Ishfaq’s “Wonderjazz” is a spacey jazz-house cut that will have the dancefloor spinning through orbit. Highly recommended!

These releases fall perfectly in-line with the kind of dancefloor-focused jazz music that is prominent on Colin Curtis’s weekly Sunday Jazz Dance Fusion radio show for The Hitmix 107.5 FM — an outlet that has played a huge influence on BeatCaffeine, and one I listen to each and every week. Absolutely Essential!
