Colin Curtis presents brilliant new jazz dance EP of Tom Funk and ‘The Sultan’s Swing Sessions’
On the heels of two essential releases from GeeW (aka Glenn Worthington), legendary jazz and Northern soul UK deejay Colin Curtis presents a brilliant new EP release from London-based producer and keyboardist Tom Funk’s project The Sultan’s Swing.
Simply titled The Sultan’s Swing Sessions, this remarkable EP marks the fourth official release under The Sultan’s Swing name and features five incredible dancefloor jazz tracks that blend together jazz-funk, downtempo and acid jazz-influences, Latin rhythms, and spacey cosmic grooves.
Tom Funk, who has had a very active year, contributing to the recent September Sun 7inch single and the forthcoming and highly-anticipated new Natural Lateral album Tapestry of Life, leads the way playing keyboards, synths, programming on all tracks, and guitar, bass and drums on “Libera Tu Mente”. Other musicians featured on the recording include percussionist and bassist Ozan Nidayi, saxophonist Oli Arlotto, drummer David Mrakpor, percussionist Desmond Morgan, and vocalist Kerim Pouso (also on “Libera Tu Mente”).
Limited to just 250 copies, with no plans of a repress, I highly recommend picking up a copy immediately. Definitely one of the year’s best EP releases!
