Cinematic Soundscapes and Atmospheric Tones From Dutch Multi-Instrumentalist
Under the name Felbm, Dutch multi-instrumentalist Eelco Topper (aka Falco Benz) releases a great new two-part project through Soundway Records titled Tape 1 / Tape 2. A slight departure from many of Soundway’s other globally-influenced releases, the music featured on the 15-track album takes very minimalistic approach, combining beautiful piano-based melodies with subtle jazz drums, electronic beats, cinematic soundscapes and atmospheric tones.
The album features many great tracks and catchy melodies throughout the two-part session, including electric groovers “Birkelunden,” “Funicular,” and “Samensmelten,” the spacey atmospheric “Tandem,” and a brilliant cover of Brad Mehldau’s 2002 composition “When It Rains.”
Part one of the album, Tape 1 was originally released digitally on September 21st, about one month before Tape 2 was released on both vinyl and digital. The album’s packaging is beautifully done, with Tape 1 and it’s associated artwork on the side A, while Tape 2 and it’s corresponding design on the flip.
As we continue through fall and quickly approach winter, Tape 1 / Tape 2 feels like the perfect moody soundtrack for the upcoming colder months.
