Bristol’s Snazzback release incredible new adventurous LP ‘In The Place’ on Worm Discs
One of the leading groups among the Bristol scene, the seven-piece ensemble known as Snazzback, has just released their widely expansive sophomore album In The Place on Worm Discs, a newer Bristol-based label that has quickly made a strong impression with already a number of essential releases.
Recorded over a span of two year’s in the group’s self-built small studio, this brilliant twelve-track recording covers a lot of ground musically, with a sound that incorporates jazz-funk, and heavy cosmic-soul grooves with Afro-Latin rhythms, electronic textures, and a touch of psychedelic rock. You can certainly tell that this tight knit group has leaned into and absorb some of the sounds of their influences like Portico Quartet, Jimi Hendrix, English post-punk band Rip Rig & Panic, London saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, and Brazilian fusion icons Azymuth, while still establishing a unique identity through the lens from the city they reside. There is no doubt about it, this is adventurous music for the dancefloor.
Featuring a superb cast of musicians, including trumpeter Alfie Grieve, alto saxophonist Dave Sanders, guitarist Eli Jitsuto, keyboardist Hal Sutherland, bassist Richard Allen, drummer Chris Langton, and percussionist Myke Vince, the session also features a number of special guests like longtime collaborator and vocalist China Bowls, as well as rapper Soss, vocalist Solomon OB, and STANLÆY (digital version only).
Overall, phenomenal new recording from one of the most forward-thinking groups among the rising Bristol music scene. Highly recommended!
