Bristol experimental jazz collective Ishmael Ensemble return with brilliant new LP ‘Visions Of Light’
Bristol-based experimental jazz collective Ishmael Ensemble, led by saxophonist and producer Pete Cunningham, return following their breakthrough 2019 debut A State of Flow, with another brilliant and expansive new album title Visions of Light.
Through the album’s ten tracks, the record takes the listener on an adventurous sonic journey through many different moods and emotions, blending together jazz-inspired instrumentation and freewheeling saxophone solos, with ambient tones, cosmic keys, drum machine beats, and broken beat rhythms. Many tracks on the recording also feature haunting vocal harmonies from Holysseus Fly and others.
With their sophomore release, Ishmael Ensemble continue to push the envelope and take their evolving sound to new heights, proving quickly that Cunningham and company are currently one of the most forward-thinking groups in the UK jazz scene. Highly recommended!
