This week’s BeatCaffeine’s weekly record rundown features the latest offering from Italian producer and “nu jazz” pioneer Gerardo Frisina, the funky latin jazz dance recording from the Romero Bros, Angel Bat Dawid and Naima Nefertari cosmic excursion into ancient astrology and spiritualism, and the brilliant and highly meditative new full-length on Gondwana Records from California’s Phi-Psonics.

Gerardo Frisina — ‘In Sight Vol. 2’
(Schema Records)
Italian producer and modern day jazz dance pioneer Gerardo Frisina continues to kick things into high gear as we approach the warmer months ahead, with the release of In Sight Vol. 2 on Schema Records. Building on the foundation of a signature and expansive sound that he has mastered over the last two decades, the superb 7 track recording fuses together Latin, jazz, deep house grooves, and a spiritual undertone with an overall sound aimed at the dancefloor. Volume two also features new arrangements of “Mindoro” and “Tarab”, which were included on volume one, and an expansive version of “Mystical Funk”, which first came out last year on a 7inch release. The two-part In Sight series are shaping up as prime material for those late night summer dance parties.

Romero Bros — ‘Sonidos De Otro Mundo’
(Distributed by Echo Chamber Recordings)
Following last summer’s massive 7inch release featuring a brilliant rendition of Airto’s “Samba De Flora”, the North Argentinian brother duo (Xavi and Remi) known as the Romero Bros have returned with their debut full-length release, titled Sonidos De Otro Mundo. The recording includes 7 incredible tracks strictly aimed at the dancefloor, blending together Latin rhythms, cosmic grooves, and dancefloor jazz. The record includes two remixes, from each brother of their acclaimed “Samba De Flora”, impressive new renditions of Roy Davis Jr’s “Gabriel, Milton Nascimento’s “Cravo E Canela” and more.

Angel Bat Dawid & Naima Nefertari — ‘Journey to Nabta Playa’
(Spiritmuse Records)
Composer and multi-instrumentalist Angel Bat Dawid and multidisciplinary artist and musician Naima Nefertari (aka Karlsson) have come together for a majestic new recording Journey to Nabta Playa for Spiritmuse Records, that draws on mythology, ancestral science and as the title of the album suggests, the ancient astrological stone circle of Nabta Playa, nestled in the remote deserts of Nubia. This incredible and expansive record, blends together spiritual jazz, celestial electronics, ancestral instrumentation, storytelling, and sounds of nature and space. Recorded between Dawid’s base in Chicago and Naima’s family home in Sweden, this deeply cosmic offering embodies the ancient knowing while looking far into the envisioned future.

Phi-Psonics — ‘Expanding to One’
(Gondwana Records)
For their third recording for Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records, Los Angeles-based acoustic bassist Seth Ford-Young leads a fluctuating cast of musicians on a series of live and highly improvised recordings over a few sessions in the Spring of 2024 at the Healing Force Of The Universe records in Pasadena, Ca. The album features 14 superb tracks that have an overall cosmic meditative and spiritual jazz vibe that take the listeners on a restorative sonic journey in a time of injustice and tragedy in our world. One of the best records of 2025!
