Australian drummer Alexander Flood releases superb cosmic jazz album ‘Oscillate’
One of Australia’s most creative and upcoming versatile drummers and bandleaders Alexander Flood has recently released his third, and arguably his best recording to date in Oscillate off the German-based label Jakarta Records.
Blending together a mix of broken beat rhythms, funky nu jazz grooves, electronic-based beats, soulful flute melodies, and spacey atmospheric textures over six superb tracks, Flood has put together a brilliant cosmic jazz recording primed for the dancefloor.
Recorded at JRS in Berlin, Flood plays drums, percussion, vocals and production throughout the recording. He is joined by Horatio Luna (bass), Àbáse (keyboards), Paulo Cedraz (flute & additional percussion), Lewis Moody (additional keys & production) and Joel Prime (additional percussion).
Great from start to finish, Oscillate is a forward-thinking record that takes a fresh approach to fusing jazz, electronics and club culture together in a way that feels organic and not forced. Definitely one of the standout releases of 2023.
