Afro-Disco Holy Grail ‘Cosmic Sounds’ Reissued
38 years after it’s original release, N’Draman-Blintch’s extremely rare Afro-disco gem Cosmic Sounds finally sees a much-needed reissue from the Paris-based Hot Mule label. The record, which was originally released in 1980, features four great tracks that blend funky African-influenced disco grooves with lots of spacey synth lines, hypnotic melodies, and soulful vocals. The track-listing includes “Self Destruction,” “Essika-Ti,” “She Africa (Ton Tour Viendra),” and the great eleven-minute title track “Cosmic Sounds.” Overall, the whole album is very William Onyeabor-esque, sounding like an uptempo soundtrack to the funkiest space-aged African disco party.
With original copies of the record going now for over $1,000, this reissue will now make one of the greatest African disco records much more obtainable. Don’t sleep on this one!
