Sitka Sun — All The Way West

Oakland’s cosmic psych jazz group Sitka Sun releases highly-anticipated new record ‘All The Way West’

In early 2018, Oakland-based cosmic psych jazz ensemble Sitka Sun, which is the brainchild of bassist, composer, and arranger Patrick Murphy, released their self-titled debut album to immediate high praise globally. The album sold out almost upon it’s release, and saw rotation on Gilles Peterson’s BBC 6 radio show. In what is certainly one of the most anticipated releases of the new year, the group will put out their sophomore recording, titled All The Way West via The Long Road Society label on in late January.

Building on the foundation of their stellar debut, this brilliant new six-track record blends together meditative rhythms, interwoven melodies, cosmic grooves, and psychedelic textures featuring a wide range of both acoustic and electric instrumentation including multi-layered horns, percussion, double-bass, electric and slide guitars, pedal steel, spacey synths and more. Similar to the group’s first recording, the music has a “roaming through the desert” like feel that is hypnotically spiritual. The albums fist two singles “Presence” and “Dauntless”, which are available to stream now, really help capture the essence of the project and the recording. Fans of Khruangbin, The Heliocentrics, Greg Foat, and Surprise Chef should definitely take notice.

Released officially on January 29th and available now to pre-order, Murphy and crew have once again put together an incredible record that continues to push their uniquely original cosmic sound to whole new heights. Without a doubt, this album delivers on all levels and is the first great release of the new year.
