Nimbus Sextet — Helix

Glasgow’s Nimbus Sextet returns with superb new EP ‘Helix’

Following the breakthrough debut album Dreams Fulfilled on Acid Jazz Records, Glasgow’s Nimbus Sextet returns with an incredible new 4-track EP release, titled Helix, which features a mixture of new material and unreleased remixes.

Building on the foundation that heard on Dreams Fulfilled, the new EP continues to showcases the group’s expansive array of influences in their music. The eleven-minute opening track, “Helix” brilliantly blends together everything from 70s era jazz-funk, psychedelic grooves, Eastern-European/Klezmer, and Latin rock. Next up is a primed-for-the-dancefloor uptempo rendition of Yussef Kammal’s now 2016 essential classic “Lowrider”.

The EP concludes with two excellent remixes from the group’s debut, with Chris Read reworking “Deep Dark Blue Lights“, and Born74 providing a great new take on the bands first single “Trap Door”.

Overall, another impressive release from the forward-thinking Glaswegian jazz ensemble. Only available digitally at the moment, however here is hoping that an EP this good makes it’s way to vinyl sometime in the near future.
